Bluff planners told building official resigned; town secures temporary inspector and posts part‑time role

Town Manager Darren Nelson told the Bluff Planning and Zoning Commission on April 2 that Building Official Corey Coleman resigned effective the previous Friday and the town has secured a temporary emergency contract with Blanding City to provide building‑inspector services while it recruits a part‑time replacement.

"We have secured a temporary emergency contract with Blanding City to provide building inspector services, while we attempt to fill that part‑time position," Nelson said. He said the position is posted for 10 days and that applications are due Sunday, April 12 at 5 p.m.; applicants should submit a resume to Nelson by email. Nelson also noted that new state building‑official regulations expected to take effect around May 1 will increase training and qualification requirements and that the town may allow a new hire to obtain needed certifications within 90 days of hire.

Nelson emphasized that routine building permits and permit‑tech support remain in place: permit technician Kristen Bushnell will continue to answer questions and staff asked commissioners to email permit questions so Bushnell can respond rather than attending meetings unless a change in responsibilities occurs.

What this means locally: the town will rely on its intergovernmental relationship with neighboring municipalities for inspector coverage in the short term while it seeks a candidate who can meet the upcoming state qualifications. Nelson thanked Pratt and Taylor for assistance coordinating the temporary contract.

At the meeting the commission also handled routine procedural items: it approved the March 5 and March 19 minutes (the latter with editorial edits) and adjourned at about 6:48 p.m.
