Village authorizes national search after police chief says he will retire

The Lindenhurst Village Board on Nov. 11 authorized Village Administrator Clay Johnson to execute a master services agreement with MGT, Inc. to conduct the recruitment for the village’s next police chief after current Chief Thomas Jones informed the board of his intention to retire after the new year and relocate to North Carolina.
The agreement carries an estimated cost of $25,000. MGT (formerly GovHR) presented its background and approach to the Human Resources Committee on Nov. 5, and the committee unanimously recommended using the firm. The company estimates the search process will take about 90–120 days and named Mark Horenstein as the proposed project lead; Horenstein was described as a former Winnetka police chief with roughly 30 years of law enforcement experience and past service as president of the Northeast Regional Crime Lab.
The board’s authorization to execute the master services agreement was made by motion, was seconded, and carried by roll call vote with Trustees Dickson, Dunham, Chybowski, Suchy and Grace voting aye.
The board did not set a hiring deadline beyond MGT’s estimated timeline. Village officials said the process will follow the firm’s standard executive recruitment steps, including candidate screening, interviews and background checks.
