At the Oct. 6 meeting the chair said the county and city are "in the process of finalizing our climate action plan," and urged the public to attend a Nov. 15 festival where the plan will be shared. Committee members emphasized the county and city greenhouse-gas inventories and described the plan as a product of staff and community expertise.
Staff member Steve Hoster (S2) told the board the environment-protection team will meet with legal counsel to "figure out what the status of that means for us and how we wanna move forward" regarding an administrative matter connected to Mill Creek; he said the meeting with legal is scheduled for the following morning. The board agreed to continue monitoring developments in a neighboring county about desalination and surface-water pumping proposals and to assess whether those plans affect Alachua County's interests.
Members noted the CCAC will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Mondays, with the next meeting scheduled for the following Monday and the first official monthly CCAC meeting in October. The chair suggested adding "ecotourism" to a future agenda, and members tied that topic to the upcoming bike and pedestrian master plan as a possible November or December item.
Board members repeated that much of the climate-action work is ongoing and that public engagement opportunities will be announced; no policy actions or budget votes were taken related to the plan at this meeting.
