County attorney reports lawsuit dismissal; sheriff presents April activity and treasurer files annual reports

Matt Cross, appearing via Zoom as counsel (MML), updated the board on two pending legal matters: the federal case filed by Mark Hangan was dismissed and a separate suit by Kubick Aviation remains active. Commissioner Numinen later described the litigation update as informative and warned about the rapid spread of misinformation.

Lt. Jason Hart presented monthly Sheriff’s Office statistics for April: an average jail population of 75; law enforcement calls for service totaled 280; 57 case reports; 50 crashes; 153 civil papers served and 207 civil papers received. Special operations incidents included two personal‑injury crashes, three water/ice rescues, two structure fires, two distressed persons responses and one drowning. Front‑office activity recorded 240 handgun registrations, 41 warrants entered, 15 protective orders entered, 24 sex‑offsender verifications and 62 background requests.

Jackie Solomon, Marquette County Treasurer, submitted the Brownfield 2025 annual report, the Treasurer’s 2025 annual report and explained the county’s fourth‑quarter investment report; all reports were placed on file. Antonio Adan, executive director of the Land Bank Authority, reviewed completed 2025 projects and highlighted ongoing work.

Board members thanked staff for the reports and emphasized the need for clear public messaging, particularly after a recent drowning noted in public comment. The informational items were acknowledged and records were placed on file; no formal board action beyond acknowledgement was recorded for the reports.
