Leno said the incumbent surveyor’s estimate for the work was $183,000.
Councilors debated timing and whether the city has adequate infrastructure to support future annexations. Some council members argued the city should focus on completing current infrastructure before expanding services; others said the surveys were necessary now to protect property owners who opted out from being incorrectly taxed or assessed.
A motion was made to put the surveying work out for competitive bid rather than directly hiring the incumbent; the motion passed. Council members asked staff to ensure the work is completed so CAD receives the accurate parcel information needed for tax and service boundaries.
