Mike Davis told the board he has worked in the district in multiple capacities since 2013 and implored trustees to consider a flat-dollar increase for lower-paid classified employees instead of a percentage raise. “I’m gonna implore you again to look at the fact that our most vulnerable people are classified people,” he said, arguing a fixed-dollar increase helps lower-paid workers more than a percent-based raise.
Daisy Weber, a kindergarten teacher at Southern Elementary who said she has worked in the district for seven years, echoed that request and described aides and cafeteria workers who receive roughly $500 in a two-week paycheck after taxes. She urged the board to “compensate support staff with the dollar amount raise.”
Board members thanked both speakers for their comments; no formal change to the salary schedule was recorded at the meeting. The topic was raised in advance of the district’s tentative budget deadline and will be part of upcoming budget deliberations.
