LaTierra TKA Academy of Excellence principal Miss Tate presented the school’s charter renewal petition to the Inglewood Unified School District board, describing the school’s mission, program elements and plans for continued academic growth.
Miss Tate said LaTierra is a dependent charter that follows district and county rules and outlined four pillars of excellence, including standards‑aligned instruction, STEAM challenge‑based learning and expanded parent engagement. She reported school demographics and supports — referencing AVID certification, PBIS/MTSS systems, EduCLIMBER data tools, and a CTE grant to start pathways for grades 4–8 — and said the school is aiming for “1 to 1.5 years” of academic growth annually for students.
The board did not debate the petition at length during the May 6 meeting; Dr. Morris reminded the public that the district has 90 days from the petition’s submission to evaluate it and bring back a report at the June meeting. The public hearing included no speakers who submitted comments on the petition and the hearing was closed.
Miss Tate emphasized family engagement and plans to strengthen articulation with City Honors and other district pathways so more LaTierra students stay in the district from TK through middle school and on to high‑school CTE opportunities. The district will return a staff report and recommendation to the board in the prescribed 90‑day review period.
