Cass County commissioners approve courthouse-door replacements, commercial mower and $18,000 building assessment task order

The Cass County Commission on April 29 approved a set of routine departmental purchases and a roughly $18,000 task order to assess the county’s old courthouse.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve Resolution 26-36 to purchase and install exterior doors for the Road and Bridge facilities from DH Pace Services Group. "This is just a replacement of all of our exterior doors," a county staff member, Travis, said, noting recent rains had caused water to enter the building at every door and that the existing doors are deteriorating.
The commission also approved Resolution 26-38 to buy a 2026 John Deere Z9950M mower from Heritage Tractor Inc. for Road and Bridge use. Travis told commissioners the county’s current Cub Cadet mower is at the end of its service life and that crews mow three locations; the purchase moves the county to a commercial-grade machine.
Under Resolution 26-39 the commission authorized Task Order No. 2 with Navigate Building Solutions LLC to perform an interior and exterior assessment of the old courthouse and produce prioritized repairs and cost estimates. Shelby, speaking for the presentation, said the task order is "just shy of $18,000" and is intended to give commissioners the information needed to prioritize a next phase of work.
All three resolutions passed by recorded counts shown in the meeting as three votes for, zero against.
The measures fund routine maintenance and equipment replacement for county operations and, in the case of the courthouse task order, will produce the estimates the county said it needs to plan repairs.
The commission moved on to other agenda items after the votes and later recessed into an executive session on legal and real-estate matters.
