Calexico High honored for top FAFSA/California Dream Act completion in Imperial County

Imperial County Office of Education presented a banner recognizing Calexico High School as one of the top schools for FAFSA and California Dream Act applications submitted by the March 2 deadline, highlighting district counselors, students and parent outreach.
Denise Cabanilla, senior director of higher education and adult learning at the Imperial County Office of Education, presented a CIF-style banner to Calexico High School and Calexico Unified in recognition of the school’s high rate of FAFSA and California Dream Act application completion by the March 2 priority deadline.
Cabanilla said the recognition reflects coordinated work by school counselors, students, families and community workshops. "This is gonna give them a means and ability... to attend college, but be able to pay for college and graduate without debt," she said, noting the completion effort supports socioeconomic mobility.
Trustees and district staff thanked ICOE and highlighted contributions from local leaders and the college access center; the board posed for photographs with ICOE staff and district representatives.
The recognition is part of a countywide 'race' to increase completion; Calexico High tied for first place in the large-school category, with an adjacent presentation to Imperial Unified.
