Cass County Commission approves equipment leases, maintenance contracts and safety inspections

Among the actions, the commission authorized Resolution 2632 to lease two higher-horsepower John Deere tractors through a Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) lease program; staff said the program provides 350 hours per tractor at roughly $7,000 per tractor per year. "We use that to pull our bigger road room," said Travis, the department staff who gave the update, and another commissioner called the arrangement "a good deal." The resolution was moved, seconded and approved with no opposition recorded.
The commission also approved Resolution 2633, an agreement with Saris Systems Inc. to install a new regulator and related equipment after staff reported repeated overpressure in basement lines (staff described pressures running about 100 to 120 PSI and a plan to regulate to roughly 65–70 PSI). A staff speaker described pipe failures tied to the current regulator and said replacement and regulation would resolve the issue. The motion was moved, seconded and approved with no opposition recorded.
Resolution 2634 authorizes Siemens Industry Inc. to perform 2026 life-safety inspections at the Cass County Justice Center. Staff noted Siemens maintains the facility’s sprinkler and fire-protection systems and has performed retrofits and ongoing maintenance. The commission moved, seconded and approved the contract with no opposition recorded.
Finally, Resolution 2635 authorizes payment to the Missouri Department of Revenue in response to demand notices dated March 5 and April 3, 2026, for repayment of previously distributed adult-use marijuana sales tax; staff explained recent court decisions found some earlier collections were erroneous and that the county is processing the required repayments. The resolution was moved, seconded and approved with no opposition recorded.
Each item was presented briefly by staff and approved on voice motions; there were no recorded dissents on the public record. The commission proceeded to other business and then to closed session for legal matters.
