Kaler closure: principals, transportation and parents working on student placements

Karen said staff are coordinating with other principals, the assistant superintendent, transportation and multilingual services to minimize transitions for Kaler students, but that final placement is difficult to determine because the district’s reconfiguration plan for next year may change. "Thinking of putting kids in schools where they might not end up anyway doesn't make a lot of sense," she said.
To gather family input, the district sent a survey to parents of Taylor students asking preferences such as keeping children with friends, placement near home, or assignment with a known adult. Karen said the district remains on track to provide placement information by the board’s May timeline.
Board members asked for transparency about placement guidelines and how the district will minimize transitions; the superintendent and principal said they will return with more details at the next meeting.
