“Back in 2017 we passed our original operating referendum. The amount we are actually going to be renewing for authority is $641.63 per pupil, with the inflationary factor included,” district staff said, and added that at that per‑pupil level the referendum generates about $5.5 million annually for the district under current pupil counts and the inflationary factor.
The board opened for public testimony required by statute; no members of the public spoke during the hearing. Later in the business portion, a board member moved and another seconded a resolution to renew the referendum authority for another 10-year period (through fiscal year 2038). The resolution passed on a roll-call vote; the clerk recorded all present board members voting yes.
Board discussion noted the referendum’s role in near-term budget planning: finance committee members said the district projects a FY27 operating deficit near $3 million and recommended $1.8 million in budget reductions to minimize staff impacts while using reserves to cover the remainder. Board members said renewing the local authority was an important step to preserve operating revenues moving forward.
