School board highlights FFA parliamentary team, UFLI teachers and student competition teams

Hardee County School Board members used part of their April 23 meeting to recognize student achievement and classroom initiatives.
The board welcomed the Hardee Senior High FFA parliamentary procedure team, which demonstrated a mock meeting and introduced its advisers and volunteer coach. Board members thanked adviser Lazorko and volunteer coach Jay Southwell for their work; the team has won subdistrict and district competitions and will compete at the state competition in June. Coach Southwell and the students described competition format and training routines, noting they practice weekly and must complete a written test in addition to live rounds.
Superintendent Bennett also praised kindergarten through second‑grade teachers for their work implementing the University of Florida Literacy Initiative (UFLI) and described district support including online coursework, coaching and classroom walkthroughs by university staff. Bennett asked the board to recognize K–2 teachers at the May 28 meeting; the board agreed. District staff also asked to recognize the high school's solar cart team at the May 14 meeting and Odyssey of the Mind teams at the May 28 meeting.
Board members applauded the demonstrations and agreed to schedule photo opportunities and formal recognitions at the upcoming meetings. No policy or funding actions were taken on these recognitions.
