Waynesville R‑VI highlights student awards and Leader in Me implementation

The Waynesville R‑VI Board of Education spent a portion of its April meeting recognizing student and staff achievements and receiving updates on district programs.
Student recognition: Administrators recognized 15 students selected for publication in the Missouri Art Education Association Show Me Art Student Coloring Book, named winners and called students forward for certificates. Career and technical education students who qualified for state and national competitions (DECA, SkillsUSA) were also recognized and sponsors were thanked. The Waynesville Bridal School Student Council and the High School Student Government Association received statewide awards for leadership and inclusion, including the Special Olympics School of Character Gold Award.
Staff recognition and spotlight: The board acknowledged a Waynesville High School mathematics team and staff who contributed to measurable student growth (Prime Center recognition) and named a transportation employee of the month (Jason Cardoza). The district’s special education team and classified/certified staff at Freedom Elementary were spotlighted for their work supporting student learning and inclusion.
Program update: Miss Long presented a detailed update on the Leader in Me district implementation (program timeline since 2018, goals of culture/academics/leadership, lighthouse status process and district design day). The board asked questions and praised student engagement. Administration presented a first reading of the district assessment plan and said formal approval will be requested at the May meeting.
No citizen participation requests were recorded under board policy BDDH during the public comment period.
