Upper Arlington council honors UA High School Bearbots after regional wins

The Upper Arlington City Council recognized the Upper Arlington High School Bearbots robotics team on May 4 after the team tallied strong regional finishes and a championship victory. Mentor Kurt Bixle introduced students and described the program's year-round mentorship and outreach, saying it develops problem-solving and teamwork skills that translate to careers in science and engineering. "You can point them at any problem and they just figure it out," Bixle said.
Student Sam, a team member, said the team's task this year was to build a robot that could shoot game pieces into a hub and offered a brief in-chamber demonstration. The council read a formal commendation noting the Bearbots' third-place playoff finish at the Buckeye Regional in Cleveland and additional awards at the Miami Valley Regional.
Council members thanked the team for representing the city and accepted honorary medals presented by students. The recognition preceded the evening's regular agenda and a group photo at the conclusion of the presentation.
