The Town Commission approved using refunded funds from the US 27441 road‑widening project to purchase a sewer‑cleaning combination truck and to apply remaining refund money to upcoming infrastructure work.
Public Works Director (CT Eagle) told the commission the town received a refund of $718,779.13 after utility relocation costs for the FDOT project came in under budget. He proposed buying a sewer‑cleaning combination truck (a larger vacuum/jetter unit) at a cost of $470,000 using the Florida Sheriffs Association contract pricing. Staff said the town currently has only smaller trailer‑mounted equipment and that the new unit will allow full vacuuming and jetting of cesspools, catch basins and lift stations and improve utility maintenance capabilities.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the purchase. Roll-call votes recorded Commissioners Sage, Regan, Roberts, McLeigh and Mary Ed Raymond voting Yes. The director indicated the remaining refunded balance would be used for other infrastructure projects and included a copy of the FDOT refund letter and equipment specifications in the meeting packet.
