Councilmember Tom Clark used his economic-development report on May 4 to announce that Webb Chemical Service Corporation will open its first Ohio distribution center in Strongsville, restoring a vacant facility at 2600 Drake Road and promising local hiring.
“Webb Chemical Service Corporation plans to hire 25 new employees and retain 3 existing positions,” Clark said, reading the project announcement provided by Team NEO and JobsOhio. Clark said the Ohio Department of Development approved the project for tax-credit assistance at a statewide review on April 27 and described the move as an example of regional public-private collaboration to spur local jobs and reuse an underutilized site.
Clark said the city’s economic-development team and its partner CBRE will continue to support business attraction and site readiness for shovel-ready parcels, and he announced an economic-development committee meeting planned for June 22.
The project details presented to council indicated the company intends to renovate and operate at the 2600 Drake Road site, which has been vacant for about five years; the council did not vote on incentives during the May 4 meeting and did not provide a timeline for project permitting or construction.
