CTE center nears completion; staff outlines December possession and January classes

District staff and contractor representatives gave the board a detailed progress update on the county’s career and technical education (CTE) center and related school construction projects.
Todd Capels introduced Skanska representatives Kamal Khalil and Eric Bookholder, who reviewed completed and ongoing work: permanent electrical and water service, parking-lot base paving, mast arms for traffic signals on Peters Creek, curbs and gutters, sidewalk installation, HVAC boilers and chillers commissioned, casework installed and finish painting under steel canopies. Contractors have completed many shop and classroom finishes and are addressing remaining storefronts, ceiling tiles and minor punch-list items.
Staff said possession of the CTE center is planned in December with classes phased in to begin in January; teachers will be moved over during the winter break with temporary help hired to assist moves. Board members asked about phasing and whether elementary transitions would be affected; staff said the plan is phased and the elementary school move schedule is separate.
Photos shown to the board documented the progress and staff praised the contractor’s performance. No formal policy decisions were taken; the presentation provided schedule and scope information to inform future agenda items and planning.
