The Council approved an agreement for the voluntary dissolution of the Coon Rapids Fire Relief Association and adopted Resolution 26-52 to amend the 2026 General Fund budget for state fire aid disbursement.
Councilmember Peter Butler acknowledged the lengthy collaborative process involving staff, the Fire Relief Association, the union, and Human Resources. He said the Council will continue discussing how any disbursed funds might be repurposed during the next budget season, particularly in light of recent discussions about fire staffing and long-term needs. Councilmember Christopher Geisler said members had an opportunity to be heard during the association’s annual meeting and that the group reached consensus that dissolution was appropriate.
The motion passed unanimously. Staff indicated future follow-up on allocation of funds and related staffing considerations will occur during the City’s budget discussions.
