Ridgewood Garden Club honored; residents press council on Tree City USA implementation and tree board appointment

Parma City Council recognized the Ridgewood Garden Club at its April 20 meeting and presented certificates and a proclamation for the club’s 75th (transcript said 70 fifth) anniversary of volunteer work maintaining park entrances and planting bulbs.
Joyce Roth, president of the Ridgewood Garden Club, thanked the council and invited members to future programs. Roseanne Grechke, speaking for Trees for Our Parma/Greener Parma, thanked council and asked whether the tree-board chairperson named in the Tree City USA application had been appointed and whether a tree commission with community involvement exists.
Mayor De Geiter and administration representatives acknowledged the award and said the city welcomed the partnership; staff indicated they would follow up with the callers about the tree-board appointment and the application details. Sharon Stachurski asked that city staff contact Grechke’s group and noted past attempts to work with the administration; council members said they would pass along the request and coordinate follow-up.
The council also briefly considered a resolution recognizing April as Fair Housing Month; Mike Valerino, CEO of the Akron Cleveland Association of Realtors, supported the resolution in remarks to the council calling for ongoing education and awareness.
