The Coon Rapids City Council on March 17 approved multiple contracts to carry out the city's 2026 street maintenance program.
Public Works Director Himmer presented the recommended contracts for Projects 26-5 and 26-7 and told the Council pavement-marking cost estimates would be sent out that week with a three-week turnaround, with staff returning with recommendations at an April meeting. Councilmember Peter Butler asked about the timeline for those marking estimates; Director Himmer said staff expected to deliver the numbers and recommendations in April.
Councilmember Pat Carlson noted a roughly $112,000 gap between bids on some items. Director Himmer described the spread as a sign of competitive bidding that offered the City greater flexibility, shorter timelines and lower internal costs.
Councilmember Christopher Geisler moved and Councilmember Brian Armstrong seconded a motion to approve three contracts: Allied Blacktop Company ($130,000) for Project 26-5B crack sealing; Pearson Bros., Inc. ($54,900) for Project 26-5C fog sealing; and Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC ($94,617.60) for Project 26-7 Reclamite maintenance. The motion passed unanimously.
The City will return to Council with pavement-marking estimates as described by staff; the contracts approved on March 17 authorize staff to execute the agreements and begin work under the awarded amounts.
