Edwardsburg adopts 2026–2027 budget and OKs 3% water rate increase

The Edwardsburg Village Council adopted its 2026–2027 proposed budget at its regular meeting on March 16, 2026, and approved related budget amendments and financial reports. Trustees voted unanimously to adopt the plan after a brief public hearing at which no members of the public spoke.
The budget vote followed approval of the Revenue and Expenditure Report (balance as of Feb. 28, 2026) and the Check Register Report (checks #39209–39270 and EFT checks #150410–150428), which showed a grand total of $47,798.82. Treasurer Paula Ralph reported February 2026 unaudited receipts of $228,557.56.
On a separate motion the council approved a 3% increase in the water usage rate, to take effect in the 2026–2027 fiscal year. Trustee Kellen Van Hulle noted a study conducted four years earlier recommended 3% annual increases; the council had not applied annual increases since 2022 because a special assessment had been added to customers’ bills. The motion to increase rates was made by Trustee Sam Garwood and supported by Trustee Kellen Van Hulle; the roll call vote was unanimous.
The council also approved March budget amendments as presented and voted to hire an auditor for an August field visit. All motions on financial matters passed on roll call votes with no recorded dissent.
The council adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
