Board hears Peter Hobart 'Bring It Home' presentation and early-learning program overview

District and school leaders presented the Bring It Home family-engagement program at Peter Hobart Elementary and a broader early-learning overview during the April 28 meeting.
Principal Mary Munson introduced the Bring It Home program as a space to build trusting relationships with multilingual and multicultural families and to connect home and school. "Bring It Home is a program at Peter Hobart Elementary that really brings families together," Munson said, and she invited a parent representative to share a family perspective.
A parent speaker identified as Aman described the program's role in providing community and tutoring supports following immigration to Minnesota, saying the program helped families feel "seen and heard" and noting tutoring for about 54 students. Student speakers also briefly described what they enjoy about the tutoring and reading activities.
The board also received a community-education early-learning overview from program supervisors: ECFE serves roughly 380 family participants; the half-day preschool enrollment is about 283 this year; the full-day Kids Place program has roughly 137 enrolled. Presenters said most classes are inclusive and that multiple funding pathways (tuition assistance, state school-readiness funding, CCAP) are available.
Presenters described curriculum (Bridges math pre-K, Second Step social-emotional learning), developmental screening through early-childhood screening (hearing, vision, motor checks) and family-engagement events such as a vehicle fair and recent dance party. Board members asked about outreach and how families connect; presenters said invitation, multilingual outreach and word-of-mouth are used and that work is underway to expand Spanish-language ECFE offerings.
