Greene County commissioners approve grants, contracts, proclamations and personnel actions

On infrastructure and procurement, commissioners approved a $250,000 grant application to the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for an ADA loop at Wisecarver with a county match commitment of $292,489. They also approved a PennDOT TE160 traffic signal application to add the fourth leg at the Progress Drive–East Roy Furman Highway intersection—an intersection the chair noted serves a planned Starbucks and Chipotle and sits on a county‑owned road. The board approved a Widmer Engineering proposal to apply for a DEP demolition permit and prepare bid documents to remove Bridal 87 (proposal cost $26,000, funded from Act 89/Act 44). Commissioners awarded the demo and replacement contract for Bridal Number 103 in Morris Township to CH and D Enterprise of New Stanton for $598,353.20, to be paid through a PennDOT MTF grant, and approved a Gibson Thomas Engineering contract for Wisecarver Phase 2 inspection services (cost not to exceed $173,260).
The board finalized several intergovernmental and personnel items: it approved an MOU with the Social Security Administration allowing named county staff to submit Social Security applications for inmates reentering society, an MOU with SEIU Local 668 with effective dates through 12/31/2029, and the appointment of Roger Boone (7 Point Energy operations manager) to the Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board. Commissioners also awarded three community grants: $5,000 to the Greene County Historical Society Museum for emergency sewer repairs, $3,000 to the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department for a UTV, and $750 to the Tom Morris Community Center for exterior electrical and water upgrades.
Other approved items included a $65,000 BRIC hazard mitigation grant finalization (federal share $52,834; county share $12,166), a 911 center chair lease totaling $9,052.56, several FY25–26 child welfare purchase‑of‑service agreements, CDBG activity reports for FFY2022, camera upgrades for parks and procurement and a variety of hires and reclassifications brought before the Salary Board. The Retirement Board met briefly and adjourned with no agenda items.
