Planning commission approves signage for Rockbridge Rocksteady Boxing at 134 Walker Street

The Lexington Planning Commission voted on May 14 to approve ECCOA 2026-04, a certificate of appropriateness for new signage at Rockbridge Rocksteady Boxing's space at 134 Walker Street in the Summit Square Shopping Center.
Staff described three sign elements in the application: an adhesive flat sign already installed on the back door, a decal for the front glass panel and a freestanding multi-tenant panel also already in place; staff said the application meets zoning requirements. "You have all the sign regulations on page 7," the staff member told commissioners, noting the photographs in the packet.
Applicant Elizabeth Apperson told the commission she was present to answer questions and apologized that a window panel had been installed the prior Friday ahead of the hearing. "I got in there Friday morning, and our ribbon cutting was Friday... so my apologies," Apperson said.
Commissioners asked whether other tenants in the interior corridor might also seek signage; staff replied other tenants retain the same right to apply and the commission would evaluate future requests case-by-case. After discussion a commissioner moved to approve the entrance corridor certificate of appropriateness as presented; the motion was seconded and the commission voted in favor. The application was approved and the Chair thanked the applicant for attending.
No conditions or appeals were recorded at the meeting.
