Paw Paw council approves Elm Street bid, lift-station repairs and multiple contracts

At its March 23 meeting, the Paw Paw Village Council approved multiple contracts and repair projects and adopted a resolution authorizing a grant application for a Maple Lake improvement project.
Council approved claims for the meeting in the amount of $908,913.74. The council awarded the Elm Street reconstruction bid to Lounsbury Excavating for $534,021, contingent on an unspecified change order to the project units; the council also accepted Fleis & Vandenbrink’s proposal for construction engineering and management for the Elm Street project for $63,900.
The council authorized repairs to Lift Station #1 for an amount not to exceed $145,987 and approved replacement of a damaged light pole in front of Village Hall on East Michigan Avenue for $20,666. It also approved W.P. Roofing’s quote of $14,800 to repair the motor pool garage roof.
By resolution the council adopted Resolution 26-07 authorizing application to the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund for a Maple Lake improvement project. The council also approved entering an Addressing Services Agreement with Van Buren County.
Council reappointed the listed board and committee members and added members to the Farmers Market Board, Maple Lake Committee and Historical Commission. The Farmers Market Board reported plans for a season kickoff potluck and that May 17 is the first market day.
A decision on Warner Vineyards’ parking request was tabled; Manager Bryan Myrkle was directed to draft a parking agreement to return to council. Manager Myrkle also discussed his April contract renewal and a lease with Paw Paw Schools for water wells on school property. Police Chief Eric Rottman reported Office Manager Marler hopes to return from medical leave by the end of the month and that an officer is seeking an out-of-state position.
