Vernon County Finance Committee approves treasurer’s report, orders cleanup of accounts from 2014 and earlier

Chairman Ole Yttri called the Vernon County Finance Committee to order at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2018. The committee approved the minutes of Jan. 18, 2018 and excused member Kevin Larson.
The committee voted to approve Treasurer Rachel Hanson’s report. Motion by committee member Will Beitlich, second by committee member Mike Leis, carried by all present. The motion included a directive that department heads must clean up account balances dating from 2014 and earlier by the April 19, 2018 Finance meeting.
The approval followed a review of the county’s reported balances and cash flow. The treasurer’s printout listed a beginning balance of $13,255,729.09 and receipts of $4,651,974.01; combined totals on the report showed an overall balance presentation of $14,751,982.25. The printout itemized redemption taxes collected ($47,561.19), interest earnings, and bank and pool balances. Committee members did not delay the approval to request additional detail, but they recorded the cleanup deadline to reconcile older account activity.
Dennis Brault told the committee the state is considering a new resolution that could allow counties to adopt a biannual budget, a change that would affect local budget timetables if enacted. The committee did not take formal action on the budgeting topic at this meeting.
The committee set its next meeting for March 15, 2018, at 9:30 a.m.
