Coraopolis council approves summer event permits and names new library board member

At its April 1 workshop the Borough of Coraopolis council approved a package of permits for spring and summer events and appointed a new member to the library board.
The council approved use permits by unanimous voice vote for: Riverfront Park on April 4 (birthday party by Danielle Karabions); Town Square and the eastern parking-lot side on May 7 for National Day of Prayer (Dana Watkins); Riverfront Park on June 13 for a graduation party (Ty Fisher); the eastern side of the borough parking lot on June 20 and July 17 for a CCDC business walk; Shelley Jones Park on July 4 for a family reunion (Deborah Lee); and Riverfront Park on Aug. 15–16 for Church in the Park (Calm, Church of God in Christ). Chuck Spencer and Kim Haskins were among those who moved and seconded various permits, and all motions were approved by unanimous voice vote.
The council also appointed Joe Szabat to the Coraopolis Memorial Library Board; Manager McCutcheon noted Szabat was the only letter of interest received. The workshop record does not indicate an interview or additional candidate information.
These approvals clear logistics for a series of community events; organizers and borough staff will complete any necessary follow-up permits, insurance and site preparations before the scheduled dates.
