Borough manager says upgrade to digital 911 dispatch equipment could exceed $500,000

Borough Manager McCutcheon told council the borough is exploring moving its dispatch operations to an enhanced 911 digital system. He said the Fire Department has already made the transition, and that the cost to equip the borough alone for the digital upgrade would exceed $500,000.
McCutcheon said the borough would post information on its website and on Savvy Citizen to solicit public input and keep residents informed while staff continue cost analysis and explore options. He added that the recurring cost to the borough for 911 service would be zero because of per-line charges collected on phone bills, but that the upfront equipment and integration costs would be the borough's primary expense.
Council took no formal action at the March 11 meeting; staff will prepare more detailed cost estimates and outreach materials for future consideration.
