Hanover staff: library repairs may begin while insurance claim is finalized; two employees honored

A staff member identified as AJ told the council the borough has submitted an initial contractor proposal of roughly $163,000, plus approximately $10,000–$11,000 of borough staff time and materials, to the insurance company. "We do not have everything back yet to where we can go back and forth and agree on a final number," AJ said, but added the borough has permission to start some repairs, including work on a secondary egress/vestibule, so portions of the library can reopen safely while final settlement continues.
Council members also publicly thanked two recent retirees: Tom of the water department, recognized for nearly 45 years of service with a certificate, and Robin Fermani, a library assistant and service-and-marketing specialist, recognized for nearly 14 years of service (she was not present). The council noted Tom's long experience training newer staff and described Robin's work on library programs and marketing.
When asked for a reopening date, borough staff said they could not give a definitive date and that the building must have safe ingress and egress (two usable entrances/exits) before a formal reopening will be scheduled. At a recent library-board meeting staff had hoped for a May or June partial reopening but the borough clarified no firm date could be set until repairs allow safe public use.
The meeting record does not show a vote or formal action tied to the insurance estimate or a reopening date; staff said they will continue to collaborate with the insurance company and contractors and will provide updates as work proceeds.
