Advisory committee reviews FY26 project slate; city set to front $1.5 million for Avenue D reconstruction

At the March 26 meeting, staff walked the Fort Pierce CRA advisory committee through a multi‑project FY26 slate that ranges from parking-lot improvements to wayfinding, lighting and park master planning. Projects highlighted included Jenny Park West (lot enhancement), Marina Park design work, Morris Creek Linear Park improvements and funding support for Avenue D reconstruction.
Staff said the city received a state appropriation for Avenue D and that the CRA would front half the cost: "We received the state appropriation for the reconstruction of Avenue D, but the CRA has to front half the cost... that's $1,500,000 that we have appropriated for that," staff said. Members also discussed Festival Street design to allow occasional street closures, retaining some parking for businesses, and strategies to encourage first‑floor retail in downtown corridors to increase street activity.
On affordable housing and Morris Creek updates, staff reported two completed and closed homes, one nearing completion and another in permitting as part of phase‑2 work; staff said a fuller update will come at the April 8 meeting. Committee members also raised concerns about maintenance responsibilities and interlocal partnerships with the county for larger projects.
Next steps: staff will circulate project briefs and timelines and bring project concepts for committee evaluation as part of the FY26 implementation planning.
