Anita Boone, representing a local lupus advocacy group, urged the North Little Rock City Council to acknowledge people living with lupus and to support awareness efforts.
"My name is Anita Boone," she told the council and said she has lived with lupus since age 13 and "stands in the gaps today for all those who have lost their life to lupus and all those who are still fighting this horrible, terrible disease." Tamika Keener and Gail Davis joined Boone; Davis identified herself as the board treasurer for the Lupus Foundation of Arkansas and asked council members for support.
Moderator (speaker 2) read a proclamation naming May 2026 as Lupus Awareness Month in North Little Rock. The proclamation and the public recognition were accepted without objection.
The foundation asked for continued visibility and partnership with city departments; speakers thanked the city for its support and encouraged residents to learn more about lupus and local services.
The council did not take formal action beyond reading the proclamation. The presentation closed after brief remarks and applause from members and staff.
