Applicants for a special use to allow auto sales at 2001 East Broadway confirmed they would limit vehicles; commissioners amended the staff condition to allow a total of eight vehicles on the lot — five for sale and three for staff — and approved the change.
A site plan review for a Church's Chicken at Pike Avenue generated prolonged public comment from established local restaurateurs who said the redevelopment will reduce customer parking and could harm family-run businesses. Terrell Sanders, owner of Carrie's Grill and Bar, said the plan takes parking "right in the front door" of his business and asked for coordination. The Church's Chicken representative said the project will add lighting, a fire hydrant and restriping, and offered to meet neighbors to work on reciprocal parking and handicap spaces; the commission approved the site plan.
Other design-review items and plats (MOPAC site plan, Riverbend replat, Calvary Baptist replat) were recommended for approval by the design review committee and approved by the commission.
Next steps: applicants were instructed to work with staff and nearby businesses on parking arrangements and to follow up with permitting steps as required.
