Representative Gosa, the member recognized by the presiding officer, delivered a "liberty's legacy" address that reflected on America's 250th anniversary and called for unity and responsibility among citizens and lawmakers. "May the spirit of liberty that sparked a revolution, continue to guide us and inspire us and unite us," Gosa said.
The session began with the Chair announcing that Representative Johnson of Buchanan would offer the day's prayer, which Johnson delivered asking for guidance, protection for legislators and their families, and renewed energy as the session concludes: "Heavenly father, we thank you for guiding our state legislators through this season of service." The Pledge of Allegiance followed, led by a page from West Bend.
The Chair then called attention to a correction of the journal; the journal stood approved. After Gosa's remarks the chamber heard brief procedural announcements: Gosa said Democrats would caucus at 1:45 p.m. in Room 19, and the Chair announced Republicans would caucus at 1:30 p.m. in Room 103.
With no further business raised, the Chair moved that the House recess until the conclusion of both party caucuses. The motion was decided by voice vote; the presiding officer declared, "The ayes do have it," and recessed the chamber.
No bills, motions with recorded roll-call tallies, or committee referrals were taken up during this brief session. The House is in recess pending the scheduled caucuses.
