The council also approved the mini golf portion of a park project despite debate: one member opposed removing an existing feature, likening the plan to earlier removal of tennis courts and warning about leaving unused space. A motion was recorded in the minutes as "Motion by Tammy. Second by Zach." The council carried the item after roll call.
On grants, the city accepted a $30,000 urban forestry award from the state (Iowa), which members said will cover tree-trimming, removal, manpower and allow roughly $5,000 toward equipment repair; staff noted tree-planting activity over the past two years. The council also approved a special-event application from the American Legion for a Memorial Day ceremony.
Staff and council also discussed outreach to property owners for required Mud Creek easements and agreed to form a small committee or work with staff to negotiate offers and send letters to affected owners. The chair asked for volunteers to help with easement negotiations and reminded members to review the wastewater plant punch list ahead of final acceptance.
