Council unanimously passed a resolution honoring the Southview eighth-grade boys basketball team for an undefeated 16–0 season and Greater Cleveland Conference championship, with members presenting players and coaches with recognition.
On legislation and contracts, council:
- Approved an ordinance authorizing the safety-service director to contract with Hastings Water Works to operate the city pool at Oakwood Park; the three-meeting suspension passed with one dissent and the ordinance passed with a single dissenting vote.
- Adopted an ordinance requiring abutting property owners to replace sidewalks at specified 2026 locations; that measure passed unanimously.
- Approved a rezoning ordinance (ZCA3-2025) to rezone 2973 G Street from D2 to R2, following the planning commission recommendation.
- Adopted a resolution supporting the city’s urban agriculture plan, 'Growing Together,' and its submission to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
During debate on park hours, a council member pressed whether the city would fix lighting at Oakwood Park so evening basketball leagues could use the courts later; council members said some parks will continue without lights and further action would have to be legislated. One member said, "I'm not gonna argue or discuss it. I'm just telling you that we're not gonna put that light on at this point." The park-hours ordinance passed with one dissenting vote.
On finance, council passed a temporary appropriation ordinance covering Jan.–March 2026 unanimously. The proposed 2026 permanent budget ordinance was introduced and, after requests for additional revenue and beginning cash-balance detail from the auditor, the matter was referred to committee for further review; the referral carried with four dissenting votes (Miss Springowski, Mister Dimachia, Mister Derois and Mister Arroyo). The committee meeting was scheduled for next Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Other routine items approved included reappointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals and receiving correspondence from CHN Housing about Southern Heights Preservation (a 63-unit rental development). Council adjourned after a final motion, which carried with one dissent.
