FEMA inspects Dead End Lane as McDonald County seeks storm-recovery aid

McDonald County Commissioners met with FEMA representatives on Aug. 11 to host a site inspection at Dead End Lane as part of an assessment of storm damage and stabilization needs.
The visit, attended by FEMA representatives Brad Thomas and John Price and members of the McDonald County Commission, focused on efforts to stabilize the road following damage caused by storms in April. Commissioners said FEMA will take the inspection results back for internal review to help determine potential next steps toward securing federal assistance for repairs.
The inspection at Dead End Lane was followed by commissioner-led visits to several other roads that sustained damage or require evaluation: Golf Ridge, Bear Hollow, Sugar Valley Circle Rock Site, Packet Hollow Road and Pine Hill Road. County officials presented the sites to FEMA for situational assessment and potential inclusion in any funding or technical-assistance recommendations.
The commission did not vote or adopt any funding commitments during the meeting; minutes indicate FEMA will undertake its own internal review and return with guidance. The commission is scheduled to reconvene on Aug. 13, 2025, and said it will await FEMA's findings before taking further action.
