The New Milford Town Council on March 23 approved a set of administrative and capital actions during its regular meeting.
The council unanimously approved the Scenic Road Committee’s recommendation to replace the Cherniske Road bridge with a two‑lane, 20‑foot curb‑to‑curb design and to retain stop signs on both sides for speed control. A public hearing on the bridge will be held April 13 at 6:15 p.m.
The council also authorized spending $16,276 from State Asset Forfeiture Funds to cover installation costs for upgraded mobile data terminals and modems in police vehicles; the department said the equipment will be funded from a budget line, while the forfeiture funds cover installation.
On recreation funding, the council set a Town Meeting on April 13 at 6:30 p.m. to consider using up to $566,000 from the Waste Management Settlement Fund to build three pickleball courts with expanded parking at the JPCC and up to $155,000 from the same fund to construct a toddler/child bike track. Finance Director Olga Melnikov told the council the Waste Management Fund balance is approximately $21 million.
Other actions included approving the consent agenda, confirming an appointment to the Cultural District Committee, and approving the Municipal School Bus Violation System Enforcement Program. The council discussed HRRA ordinance revisions with its attorney and an HRRA representative but took no final vote; the town attorney offered to draft a local ordinance should the council direct him to do so.
The meeting adjourned at 10:04 p.m.
