New Milford council approves consent items, event road closures and two grants

Council approved prior meeting minutes and tax refunds totaling $11,719.14 as part of the consent agenda. Councilor Katie Francis moved for approval; Councilor Paul Murphy seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council approved multiple road closures requested for community events this spring and summer, including dates for Rock the Block concerts, an Irish American Club road-bowling event, an art festival, the Memorial Day Parade route and a Patriot’s Day ceremony. Councilor Katie Francis moved to approve the road-closure requests; Councilor Rolando Castro seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Parks & Recreation requested acceptance of monetary donations totaling $2,000 for upcoming races; Councilor Francis moved to accept and Councilor Tom Esposito seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The council also approved acceptance of a $500 grant from the Connecticut Fair Plan Anti-Arson Committee to purchase a high-resolution camera for arson investigations and accepted an $18,022.99 FY26 Distracted Driving High Visibility Enforcement grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation to fund targeted traffic enforcement during April. Both grant acceptances passed unanimously after motions by Councilor Francis and seconders as recorded in the minutes.
The New Milford Public Library was authorized to accept a $100 donation of seeds from the VCA Village Center of the Arts. The meeting adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
All approvals recorded in the minutes passed unanimously; individual roll-call votes were not recorded beyond the "passed unanimously" notation.
