The New Milford Town Council on March 9 read a legal notice scheduling a public hearing for 6:30 p.m. March 23 in the E Paul Martin Meeting Room to consider a proposed Municipal School Bus Violation Enforcement System Ordinance, Mayor Pete Bass said.
The notice, read aloud by Mayor Bass, said: "It is proposed that the revised ordinance be added to the New Milford Code of Ordinances, as authorized by said Charter Sections 405 and 406 and Chapter 98 of the General Statutes." The notice also states a copy of the revised ordinance is on file in the Town Clerk's office and available for examination.
Bass said Chief Spenser Cerruto of the Police Department supported the proposal "for the safety of New Milford's children," a point Bass offered while summarizing the purpose of the hearing. The March 23 session is the next opportunity for residents to comment on the draft ordinance.
There was no public participation at the March 9 meeting. Council member Katie Francis moved to adjourn at 6:32 p.m.; Paul Murphy seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Minutes were recorded by Recording Secretary Stylen R Badd.
The town will hold the public hearing at the date and time listed in the notice; the Town Clerk's office is the public access point for the proposed ordinance, per the legal warning read at the March 9 meeting.
