Council approves easement for intersection improvements, forms Safe Streets steering committee and authorizes bridge application

The New Milford Town Council on April 27 approved multiple transportation and infrastructure actions, including an easement with Danbury Hospital to support intersection improvements, the establishment of a Safe Streets for All steering committee, and authorization for a supplemental bridge application.
Council voted to acquire an easement from Danbury Hospital at 30 Elm St for $3,802 to allow sidewalk relocation and parking-lot alterations needed by the LOTCIP L095-0005 East Street/Elm Street intersection improvement project. Rolando Castro moved the easement approval; Diane Klaif seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The council also approved forming a Safe Streets for All (SS4A) steering committee to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan tied to a $200,000 grant requiring a $40,000 local match. The steering committee will include Victoria Carvalho (Grants and Compliance Specialist), Chuck Ballard from Public Works, Paul Murphy as the Council representative and Lt. LaFond from the police department. The council recorded the motion approving the committee and passed it unanimously.
Finally, the council authorized Mayor Pete Bass to sign a Local Bridge Program supplemental application and any associated agreements for the Brookside Ave Bridge over Great Brook (Bridge No. 09028), noting updated cost estimates: construction at $987,448 and inspection at $288,061.80. Diane Klaif moved the authorization; Sal Rynkiewicz seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
