The council accepted a $10,000 Underage Nicotine Prevention Program community mini grant to support youth-focused nicotine-prevention efforts and a $42,030 Connecticut Department of Agriculture enhancement grant to buy equipment and appliances for a new teaching kitchen at Sullivan Farm. The council also approved a $1,000 FY26 Greatest American Cleanup Grant to support the "Keep New Milford Beautiful" program and supplies for a cleanup event organized by the New Milford Police Cadets.
Paul Murphy, a committee member, moved to accept the Youth Agency and state agriculture grants; Maryjane Lundgren seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The mayor was authorized to sign any contracts with the state necessary to accept the agriculture grant.
Council also approved smaller private donations to Parks & Recreation and the Youth Agency, including a $250 gift from Union Savings Bank for the Youth Agency and several monetary and in-kind gifts earmarked for the 8-mile and 5K races and kids events. The Parks & Recreation Commission requested that monetary donations be deposited into the Recreation Revenue account.
Actions recorded: the council voted to accept the grants and donations and to authorize contract signatures where needed. The motions passed unanimously; minutes record the votes as approval of each item.
