SWMA approves roll-off truck purchase and conflict-waiver resolution

During the April 9 meeting Solid Waste Director Matt Dolan presented vendor quotes and recommended buying a 2007 Sterling LT9500 roll-off truck to update the landfill fleet. After discussion about vehicle condition and quotes, the Authority approved purchase of the truck from RDK Truck Sales for $80,000 (motion by Linda Hanna; seconded by Interim BOC Chairman Linda Hays). The board concluded a competing quote from Thomas Trucks had too many miles to accept. Dolan said he plans future truck requests in the FY2027 budget (including a previously requested $125,000 truck and an additional truck estimated at $65,000), and that two older trucks would be salvaged.
Separately, Authority Attorney Greg Mayfield presented an updated conflict-waiver resolution enabling Jarrard & Davis LLP to continue representing both Newton County and the SWMA with informed consent; Commissioner Stan Edwards moved and the board approved the resolution.
Both motions passed on recorded voice votes with all present voting in favor except where abstentions were noted on other items earlier in the meeting. Staff will follow up on procurement details and return with budget requests for additional fleet purchases.
