Brooks County Commissioners approved a series of budget transfers and accepted bids on multiple tax-sale properties during their Aug. 22 special session in Falfurrias.
The court approved several transfers submitted by the sheriff’s office (approved unanimously) including reallocations to the Prisoner Board, jail linens, vehicle repairs and supplies. The court also approved administrative transfers such as $7,000 moved to copier leasing/maintenance, $2,000 for airport inspection expenses, $126 for post office box payment, membership dues and phone-expense reallocations, and a payment of $1,583.25 to Trevinio Electric (invoice #2290) for the J.M. Alaniz Fairgrounds. Motions were moved and seconded by various commissioners and carried as recorded in the minutes.
On tax-sale property matters, attorney Robert Cuevas of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson presented offers and the court accepted multiple bids: $6,500 for Lots 30–32, Block 11, La Colonia Addition (Suit No. 04-11-01553-TX); $1,000 for Lot 5, Block E, Rachal Addition (Suit No. 06-05-01699-TX) (the assessor-collector noted the bidder already owns adjoining fenced property); $1,000 for The North 50 feet of Lots 1 and 2, Maupin Second Addition (Suit No. 03-03-01377-TX); and $1,000 for Lot 21, La Colona Mexicana Addition (Suit No. 11-05-01914-TX). The motions to accept the offers were made by commissioners and passed by roll-call votes as recorded; purchase documents are on file.
The court also reviewed the County Treasurer's report for July 2025 and held a budget workshop discussing fund balances and line-item adjustments; minutes note a projected Fund 12 balance of $424,325 and changes in Road & Bridge and landfill funds (full budget documents on file).
