Anamosa council approves hazard mitigation plan, emergency agreement and several routine items; public hearing set for Aug. 25

At its Aug. 11 meeting the Anamosa City Council adopted Jones County’s Multi‑Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, approved a Jones County Emergency Response Team 28E agreement, authorized tree‑grinding services and other consent items, and set an Aug. 25 public hearing to vacate and convey a former alley.
The Anamosa City Council on Aug. 11 adopted a county hazard mitigation plan, approved an intergovernmental emergency response agreement, approved several routine contracts and pay requests, and set a public hearing to consider vacating a former city alley.
Councilmember Kay Smith moved, and Todd Weimer seconded, to approve Resolution 2025‑50 adopting the Jones County Multi‑Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan as maintained by Jones County Emergency Management; roll call was unanimous and the motion carried. The Council also approved the Jones County Emergency Response Team 28E Agreement after a motion by Rich Crump and a second by Todd Weimer; that vote was unanimous.
Council approved a contract for tree grinding services from Boomerang Corp. for the Public Works Department after a motion by Rich Crump and a second by Todd Weimer; the roll vote was Ayes — Crump, Kay Smith, Weimer; Nay — Dan Smith. The Council approved consent agenda pay requests totaling $37,673.53 on a motion by Kay Smith, seconded by Rich Crump; that vote was unanimous.
The Council also approved Resolution 2025‑49 — which rescinds Resolution 2025‑44 — to set a public hearing for Aug. 25, 2025, to vacate, sell, and convey the city‑owned former alley between 204 South Division Street and 610 East 2nd Street, pursuant to Iowa Code Section 364.7. The motion to set the hearing was moved by Rich Crump and seconded by Dan Smith and passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
Other routine business on the agenda included approval of liquor licenses and noise/street closure permits as part of the consent agenda. City Administrator Jeremiah Hoyt invited the Council and public to National Night Out on Aug. 12, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 6:53 p.m.
