Anamosa council reviews sewer survey, gets timetable for Ford and Huber replacement project

The Anamosa City Council heard an update August 11 from Public Utilities Director Steve Agnitsch on a sanitary sewer survey and non‑compliance review that identified deficiencies in the system. Agnitsch outlined areas the report flagged and councilmembers discussed possible next steps to address the issues.
City Administrator Jeremiah Hoyt told the Council that engineering firm HR Green is preparing a construction‑timetable letter to be sent to all business and property owners affected by the Ford and Huber sanitary sewer replacement project. Hoyt said the project is scheduled to begin in mid‑August 2025 and be completed in November 2025.
The Council was also updated on a related annexation matter: the proposed annexation of Parcel 2008‑53 (NE NW EXC Parcel 2004‑66) remains pending while the property owner and the Public Utilities Department await an estimate for a pipe to be constructed around the lift station; the annexation proposal will return to the Council for future approval, Hoyt said.
During public comment, resident Mike Dearborn of 405 North Division Street raised concerns about the sanitary sewer survey and the non‑compliance findings discussed earlier in the meeting. The Council did not take formal action on the survey or on remediation steps at the meeting; staff were directed to continue work and to provide timelines and cost estimates when available.
Next steps: staff will circulate the HR Green construction timetable to affected owners and will return to Council with the annexation and with additional information on sewer repairs and compliance options.
