Blake; second: Bill Winters). The commission also approved awarding Lt. Cheryl Holloway her duty handgun upon retirement on Aug. 21, 2025, as requested by the sheriff’s office.
• Rezoning and land use: Two rezoning measures were approved: 3410 Benton Pike (FAR to I‑1 general industrial; Planning Commission recommended approval) and 874 South McDonald Road (FAR to C‑1 rural commercial; Planning Commission 6–1). A third rezoning to R‑4 (mobile home park/travel trailer park) on Waterlevel Highway was defeated on a roll call vote of 0–13 (all recorded commissioners voted nay). Commissioner Howard Lewis Thompson said, "Mr. Chairman, the Building and Land Committee met this morning and voted to recommend approving the clearing and taking down the bank to the property line on Minnis Road Fire Facility, approximately 32' X 200' and referring it to Finance Committee for funding and if the funding is approved, then move forward." County Mayor D. Gary Davis later provided site‑preparation estimates: about $150,000 with a retaining wall and about $100,000 without one.
• Right‑of‑way: The petition to close the right‑of‑way at 153 Kersey Road NE was approved; the petition and accompanying survey were recorded as attachments.
The meeting ran about 48 minutes and adjourned at 12:48 p.m. EST. Several items were recorded as attachments to the minutes, including resolution texts, surveys and committee minutes; the commission recorded roll call votes for each formal motion.
