Quarterly CSIP review: midyear reading gains and staff retention target discussed

At the board meeting the district presenter reviewed the quarterly CSIP update and highlighted seven district goals and recent action steps.

On reading, the presenter said early‑year data for grades second through fifth showed 51% of students reading on grade level at the beginning of the year and 61% at midyear; end‑of‑year results were not yet available. "Beginning of the year was 51 percent of our students reading on grade level. Midyear is 61%." The presenter said the district will have preliminary state test results in June and the full APR and formula results in the fall.

The presenter also noted that the tool intended to supply data for grades 6–8 did not provide the expected information this year, and the district will need to adjust its approach to capture reliable middle‑school reading data.

Staff retention was raised as a separate CSIP goal: the district aims for 95% certified staff retention but reported current retention at about 85% for the year. The presenter said district leaders plan further work on non‑certified staff tracking and will have follow‑up conversations with district leadership.

Board members asked when climate/culture survey results would be presented; the presenter said the biennial survey will be administered in November with results likely available by January. Professional development next year will include dedicated collaboration time, with teachers receiving two hours for building-level PD and two hours for collaboration within a six‑hour professional day.

The presentation closed with the board thanking the presenter and no formal action recorded on the CSIP update.
