The city commission held its 17th annual high-school recognition ceremony on May 14, honoring exemplary students from several Coconut Creek-area schools. Government Affairs Manager Bernadette Hughes called students by name and the mayor and commission presented certificates and took photos with students and families.
Commissioner Railey read a proclamation designating May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness Month and presented it to NAMI Broward County representatives; Blake Cohen of NAMI thanked the commission, described the organization’s free support services, and invited residents to a NAMI walk on Oct. 4 at Nova Southeastern University. Commissioner Bridal read a proclamation designating May 17–23, 2026 as Emergency Medical Services Week and recognized Coconut Creek Fire Rescue staff for CAS accreditation and paramedic program efforts.
Why it matters: The recognitions spotlighted local students and community partners that provide mental-health support and emergency services; proclamations and partnerships are part of the city’s public-engagement and community-health initiatives.
What’s next: Staff will post event photos on the city’s social channels and continue partnerships with local schools and NAMI Broward County.
