DuPage County awards $1.41 million parking‑structure repairs; officials say more work likely

The DuPage County Board voted April 7 to award a contract to Western Waterproofing Company for Phase 2 repairs, maintenance and capital improvements at the 479 and 509 parking structures on the county campus, with the contract period running April 14, 2026, through Nov. 30, 2027 and a total not to exceed approximately $1.41 million.
County staff told the board the bid arrived below the engineer's estimate and that multiple bidders competed for the work. A staff representative said the county has been addressing deterioration in the parking decks since 2018 and that, even if this phase completes as planned, there is likely about $5 million worth of additional work remaining across future phases.
On phasing and user impacts, staff said the work will be staged to preserve parking during major events and that the county would coordinate closely with facilities management. A member asked whether an EV charger at Parking Lot 6 would be included; staff said they would inquire and noted that charging infrastructure would likely be a pay‑to‑use service if implemented.
Board members asked about sequencing and weather limits; staff noted some sealants and chemical work require conditions above about 40°F and that portions of work sometimes roll into the following spring. The board approved the contract after those questions.
The vote clears Phase 2 work; staff indicated the county may expand the contract at unit prices if the contractor performs satisfactorily and funds are available for further phases.
